But who gets to determine that?
I've seen plenty of opinions here recently that I'd call "laughable", but I have tried my best to offer my contrary point of view without scoffing at anyone. We all believe our opinion is correct - I mean, by default, we wouldn't believe something if we didn't think it's true. But you mentioned humility - and I think it's important for each of us to recognize there's always a possibility our opinion is wrong. I am certainly no exception to that.
I'm speaking broadly here, and I'm not defending the source in question in this thread. I've never heard of this group, and based on what's been presented below, I wouldn't put much credence in their opinion. But there's a way to state that point without being inflammatory - BB Hokie's post below is a good example of that. He didn't belittle, he just presented information to the contrary. ColoVT82's opinions on the virus may turn out to be incorrect in the end - but I don't recall him ever discounting someone else's opinion as laughable. He's always been respectful as far as I have seen, and for that reason alone I give his posts some thought before deciding whether I agree or disagree. At the very least, he presents a lot of information to be considered, which I appreciate.
Perhaps I'm shouting into the vacuum of space here, but I feel like if we can't move towards having respectful disagreements, then there isn't much hope for coming together to solve any problems. We'll just continue to devolve into partisan mudslinging and name calling. And this isn't a Lounge thing - it's societal. Maybe we're already past the point of no return.
